Some fencing terms:
Foil = the oldest of the fencing weapons, a thrusting weapon where successful hits are scored with the point of the sword on the torso only.
Epee = Epee du Combat is the closest to an actual duel, where the whole body is a legitimate target.
Sabre = the most modern fencing sword, and hits can be scored with the edge of the sword as well as the point, but just on the upper body.
